The Wonders of the South is an 8-day circuit starting from Djerba.

Book your tour in southern Tunisia and embark on 8 days of relaxation and adventure to discover the wonders of southern Tunisia at your own pace.

The discovery begins in Tataouine, with its Ksours and Berber villages, with a night in a lodge, then Ksar Ghilane, the oasis and its thermal spring, where you will spend the night in a tent in the middle of the desert.

The adventure continues through Douz, the gateway to the desert, and Chott Djerid, the largest salt lake in North Africa, to finally reach Tozeur, the city of palm groves par excellence!

You will visit the old Medina, mountain oases, and traverse the old Dakar Rally route and the dune cords to admire a unique sunset in front of Mos Espa. You will visit a cave in Matmata and get a closer look at how the Berbers live today. You will also taste their tea and homemade crepes with great hospitality and a big smile… You have the option to ride a camel or a quad in the dunes and are particularly far from tourist resorts and mass tourism. Instead, you prefer a local adventure, off the beaten path, and away from the crowds.

Day 1: Welcome to Tunis

Arrival in Djerba, reception at the airport, and transfer to your hotel in Djerba. Check-in and free day according to flight schedules.

Day 2: The Wonders of the South: Tataouine and Chenini, Between Ksours and Berber Villages

Trekking au Sud Tunisien

After breakfast, departure via the Roman Road to Tataouine. Visit the city, then continue to Ksar Ouled Soltane, a filming location for some scenes from “Star Wars” and one of the best Ksours in southern Tunisia. Departure for Chenini, a small village nestled in the mountains, known for its Ksours and houses carved into the mountain walls. Guided tour (about 40 minutes on foot) with a local guide who will be happy to share the history of his village and its traditions.
Lunch in a typical restaurant.
After lunch, visit the famous Ksar Hadada, a Star Wars filming location in Tataouine.

Continue to the village of Beni Khadech and check-in at the rural lodge of Ksar Jouamaa in Berber Ghorfas.

Accommodation: Overnight at Ksar Jouamaa, an 18th-century granary, atop the mountain of Béni Khédache

Day 3: A Night Under the Tent

After breakfast, depart to the Berber village of Guermessa, an abandoned village where you’ll have a walking tour to discover its different components. Continue to Ksar Ghilane, a small exotic oasis in the heart of the Sahara, famous for its natural hot spring, where you can swim. Arrival and free time to enjoy a swim in the hot spring.

Lunch and the possibility of a quad adventure (extra) or a camel ride to visit the ancient fort “Tisavar” located in the middle of the desert, then depart to Zmela camp where you’ll spend the night (about 20 km).

Arrival and free time to enjoy the sunset. Dinner and Saharan evening.
Night in a Berber tent.

Day 4: Tozeur: Chott Djerid and the Old Medina

Gentle wake-up and breakfast, then departure to Tozeur passing through the city of Douz.
Lunch and continuation.
Crossing the Chott El Djérid, an ancient lake, a sea of chimeras and eerie enchantment with mirages where, according to legend, entire armies disappeared forever. Arrival and check-in at the hotel.
Afternoon visit to the old town of Tozeur (The Old Medina) and the possibility of a carriage ride in the wonderful palm grove of Tozeur (Extra) or a visit to the magnificent Dar Chéraït Traditional Arts Museum (Extra). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Excursion to the Mountain Oases

After breakfast, depart to visit the beautiful mountain oases Chebika, a true suspended paradise, known for years as the favorite place of the greatest filmmakers (especially known for its Berber village and its water sources that spring from the mountain’s flank), Tamerza (famous for its waterfall), and Midès (for its canyons).
Lunch in a typical restaurant with the locals to enjoy a typical Tunisian menu.
In the afternoon, the possibility of leaving civilization behind and venturing into the dunes of Ong Djemel by the Rally track to discover the Star Wars sets and the village of Mos Espa. On the way to our hotel, we will pass by the basket of Nefta, where a visit awaits us.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: In the Underground House

Manger chez l'habitant

After breakfast, depart to Douz.
Arrival in Douz and free time for a stroll in its colorful market.
Departure to Matmata, the troglodyte village. Our first stop will be at the Berber village of Tamazret. Coffee break and free time for a walk in the village.
Continue to Matmata and visit a local’s home where you will be welcomed with Roman tea, bread prepared by your host, accompanied by olive oil and honey.
Departure to the hotel and lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the famous Sidi Idriss hotel (a filming location for some scenes of Star Wars) and a visit to the Berber village of Toujane, famous for the handmade “MARGOUM” carpets as well as its rosemary honey.

Return to the hotel for dinner and night (hotel with a semi-troglodyte structure and architecture)

Day 7: The Return to Djerba

Breakfast, Departure to the island of Djerba via the ferry.
Visit Guellela, the pottery village, and the possibility of shopping in the shops before leaving the next day. Continue to the alleys of Djerba Hood and free time to admire the street art.
Departure to Houmt Souk and free time in the souks.

Check-in at the hotel and free time (beachfront hotel).
