Djerba Full Day Island Tour

Introduction

The Djerba island tour is the most requested excursion by visitors wishing to discover the island and its most beautiful sites. From your hotel you will discover the essentials of the island: between the Roman road, the pottery village, the museum of art and traditions which illustrates the Djerbian customs, the synagogueDjerba Hood and the farm of crocodiles, you won’t get bored.

The most interesting would be meal time … Your guide will invite you to a local experience par excellence! You will be directed to the fish market, one of the few in the world where fish are sold directly (a kind of auction). Your guide will buy you a good fresh fish and the restaurant next door will take care of grilling it and serving it to you with a good Tunisian salad and fries.

Description

At 8:30 am, our team will pick you up in Djerba or Zarzis for a guided tour of Djerba Island’s key attractions. Begin your journey on the Roman road, the only paved path connecting the island to the mainland. Pause for a brief photo stop, during which your guide will outline the day’s detailed itinerary. Proceed to Guellela, the renowned pottery village where the craft is passed down from generation to generation. Explore the Traditional Heritage Museum of Djerba, also known as the Guellela Museum, for insights into local life, covering topics such as Djerbian lifestyle, architecture, weddings, and the economy. The visit takes approximately an hour. Next, experience pottery-making firsthand at a local workshop with your guide. Following a demonstration, you have the option to shop for pottery on-site.

Culinary and Cultural Delights: Afternoon Exploration

Head to the historic Ghariba, the oldest Jewish synagogue in North Africa, for a guided tour. Note that you’ll need to remove your shoes and cover your head at the entrance (head coverings provided). Lunchtime approaches, and your guide will lead you to the fish market in Houmt Souk for a unique experience of purchasing fish “at the cry” or through auction. The selected fish will be grilled and served at a nearby restaurant with Tunisian salad and fries. After lunch, take a leisurely stroll with your guide through the alleys of Houmt Souk, discovering ancient caravanserais (Fondouks) and gaining insights into the lives of caravanners. Explore the spice market and covered souk for your shopping needs. End your day at Djerba Explore, visiting the Lella Hadhria museum, the Heritage module, and the crocodile park.
