Full description :

Day 1 : 

Departure for the city of Matmata by ferry, a crossing of about 20 minutes.

Arrival in Matmata and visit of a troglodyte house at the inhabitant (We will be welcomed with a good Rosemary tea, olive oil and honey) and we will have time to visit the different rooms and to discover the characteristics of these houses dug underground.

Head to the sandy village of Sabria, considered the most important gateway to the desert and the starting point for the greatest number of camel treks.

On arrival, enjoy a good lunch and leave the 4wd to ride a camel for a period of about 3 hours to the camp site where the Bedouin tent will already be set up. (you can either walk or ride the camel) 

Help the camel drivers find the wood, light the campfire and prepare dinner. Learn how to prepare sand bread (bread prepared under the coals). Live these unique moments of Berber life but don’t forget to enjoy this magical view and the unique moment when the sun shyly sets behind the sand dunes!

In the evening, after dinner, you will spend the evening listening to them sing Bedouin music and dancing under a starry sky.

Night in a tent under the stars

 

jour 2 : 

You will be awakened with the first rays of sunshine caressing your faces. Enjoy a breakfast on the dunes and a hot sand loaf (bread baked under the sand and the embers).
After breakfast, follow the camel drivers to return to the starting point where the 4 * 4 will be waiting for you to return.
Departure to Douz and possibility of quad bike ride in the sand dunes (extra). Continue to the town of Matmata and visit the sets from the Star Wars film.

Lunch in a typical restaurant underground.

After the meal we will go to visit the famous Berber village of Toujane (photo break).
Return to Djerba

Good to know :

  • No toilets on site during the night: so plan your toilet bag.
  • The bivouac excursion in the Tunisian desert requires authorization from the Tunisian authorities, we will need a copy of your passport
  • For the camel ride it is preferable to wear pants
  • For walking in the desert it is preferable to bring walking shoes.
  • Please let us know if you have any food allergy.
  • During the winter, the nights are cold, bring warm clothes.
  • The tent, mattresses and blankets are provided by our agency.
  • After the visit to the inhabitant we leave a tip for the family, do not hesitate to take some pocket money.
